Our Under 14’s have claimed their 3rd consecutive promotion this week. A great achievement for this ever improving side
.
They’ve had 2 matches this week.
Manager Andy describes how they got on against Chesterfield Town on Thursday….
So as rumours had it 4th placed Chesterfield had surprisingly lost Tuesday, meaning we had been promoted come what may. That said, we couldn’t rely on that rumour!!
It was a close game, but not for the footballing purest. Chances were few and far between with AFC missing the best chance only 60 seconds into the game.
The match ended 0-0 ensuring our U14’s were promoted for the third season on the trot
Next up was their game today against title chasing Redfearn JFC….
As for today……
Well well well, what can I say? Having managed this team for 7 years, in short our (the coaching team) most favourite 45 minutes thus far.
So, the game having being postponed last Sunday (waterlogged pitch) was not going to go ahead, due to league rules meaning all games having to be played by today. Unfortunately the teams couldn’t agree a date and Redfearn suggested we were both up so no problems.
BUT top of the league Dearne surprisingly lost Thursday, meaning Redfearn could win the league (if they beat us). As such they asked if we would be prepared to play the game (after all) as their parents were prepared to come back early from holiday.
So we rocked up with 12 players and politely told them to enjoy the game, but that Redfearn had rocked up fully expecting 3 points to win the game / league!
15 mins in and we were 2 nil down
, not winning a first ball in sight. Finally after 30 mins of demanding that the boys upped their game we got one back just before half time.
The second half, was truly brilliant. We were first to every ball and on that note we were delighted that Sid grabbed our equaliser. A guy that gives everything (and the rest) every game, so everybody was made up for him .
5 minutes later we grabbed the winner from Ellis, an excellent strike into the top corner. He was brilliant (strong and didn’t give anything up) and made the other two goals too
.
To be fair it then got a bit feisty (as they knew the league title had gone) but we battled on and could have easily grabbed a 4th.
Great way to end the season as we get ready for yet another promotion push next season
