Our B Division winning Under 15’s travelled to the home of Dinnington Town FC to take on Division C Champions Penistone Church in the Trophy Final late this afternoon.
The torrential rain of the morning had long since gone and both sets of players took to the field with a chance of completing a League and Cup double 
.
AFC were fast out of the blocks straight from kick off winning a number of corners and creating some good half chances.
The breakthrough was made 15mins in when a Beazer corner wasn’t properly dealt with and Tyler
looped a shot into the top left hand corner. 1-0.
Penistone had lost only 1 game all season before today, and you could tell why as they fought their way back into the game 5 mins later to equalise. 1-1, and that’s how it stayed until half time.
The message to the lads at half time was to believe in themselves as the end of the first half had got scrappy. As always the lads responded positively to the instruction. Within the first 2mins of the second half we were back in front. Tyler worked his magic down the left, cut inside and curled a right foot shot which hit the post, but was brilliantly followed up half time substitute Matty Goodwin to put us back in front. 2-1.
We then had a 10 minute spell where we were camped in Penistone territory, but couldn’t quite double our lead. Penistone are a quality footballing side and continued to pressure us, and eventually they got back on level terms in bizarre fashion. Their danger man #14 got half a yard on the right wing and crossed the ball straight into our net. 2-2 and very much game on.
It was going to take something special to win this final and fortunately it was the AFC boys who delivered. Tess found space down the right and squared the ball to Lewis just inside the area with his back to goal. Our #9 worked half a yard for himself on his ‘wrong’ (left) foot and smashed an unstoppable drive into the top left hand corner. 3-2!
Penistone through everything at us in the remaining 15mins, but our back line would not cave in 
. We eventually saw out the game to claim a 3RD SUCCESSIVE League & Cup double…..some achievement
The whole squad were magnificent today, with special mentions to Kingz who was awarded the Referee’s MOM and Tyler who received the Coaches MOM.
