Our Under 15's entertained Worksop Town Blacks in an 11.30am KO this morning at Gosforth. The boys were looking to build on their derby day success against Town last week and were told to start on the front foot..........and boy did they do just that by scoring 4 goals in the opening 12 minutes!!!
After good play down our right flank we forced an early corner. Aaron drove the ball in low and there was Jimmy Sinclair
to finish at the near post. 1-0.
Moments later we doubled our advantage. Aaron lofted a free kick deep into Worksop territory, which the Worksop defender could only flick onto Lewis, who sat the keeper on the floor before curling the ball over a couple of defenders on the goal line. 2-0.
The lads were in the mood now and quickly added a 3rd. Lewis did brilliantly down the left after working the channel well, got to the by line and rather than shoot he squared the ball to Jimmy steaming in from the right to make it 3-0.
More was to follow. Yet again Lewis made a great run down the left, out pacing his defender. It looked like he was going to shoot, but unselfishly squared the ball to an unmarked Kane to smash the ball home. 4-0.
We were still in the ascendancy midway through the half and Lewis volleyed just over from 10 yards with his left foot when well placed.
The game then took a strange turn as Worksop pulled 2 goals back in quick succession. The first was a deflection from a Leo clearance which looped over everyone into the corner of our net. The second came from a long ball over the top and a defensive mix up saw the ball fall kindly for Worksop's No:10 to score his and his teams 2nd.
Half time 4-2! You wouldn't have believed that these 2 sides had the best defensive records in the division before kick off.
The message to the lads at half time was simple; get back to playing the football of the first 20 minutes.
Unfortunately the 2nd half was delayed due to the Worksop Coach receiving a red card and refusing to leave the playing area.
Surprisingly there were no further goals in the 2nd half! Both sides created a few half chances, but both keepers had very little to do.
The only flash point of the 2nd half was a Worksop defender receiving a red card for swearing at the referee.
Full time 4-2 to the good and another vital 3pts in the bag. Special mention for Lewis today who was fantastic in the first half, with his contribution of 1 goal and 2 assists ultimately winning us the game, along with Jimmy who showed a great goalscoring instinct again from right wing back
. The MOM went to Kane
(for the 2nd time in 3 games) for his overall performance. He lead by example and caused the Worksop defenders problems all game .
Coach Mark had this to say on his sides performance, "Despite all of the distractions of the red cards our lads remained focused throughout the game and fully deserved the 3pts. The first 15 minutes today we were unplayable and to be 4-0 up so early in the game was incredible. We must learn to not take our foot off the gas when in such a commanding position, although we have to credit the lads yet again for how they saw out the game in the 2nd half".
Well done lads. This result sees our Under 15's up to 2nd in Division B.
