Over to Manager Paul of our Under 18’s who concluded a phenomenal season this morning…
AFC U18s played their final game of an incredible season and their final game as a squad. Starting way back at U7s a good number of todays squad were there at the beginning so an end of a wonderful journey.
However, today started not as we wanted with our opposition Brunsmeer Athletic coming out of the traps desperate to put one over on us and clinch 2nd place in the league.
They took the lead from a corner and put us under pressure constantly.
A tweak to the team with 5 minutes of the first half left made the difference with Isaac Wileman jumping above the fullback to head home the equaliser just on HT.
The HT team talk settled things down.
We started really well putting them under pressure which lead to forcing an own goal to put us in the lead.
Following a close call for a penalty for them, Dan Wing chased a long ball getting to it before the keeper to win our own penalty. After a few minutes of complaining from the Brunsmeer players Wing stood up and buried the pen in the bottom corner. Cool as a cucumber!!
After that we controlled it and finally put it to bed with some great work from Matt Thorpe who crossed in for Wingy to control and fire home. Limbs!!
Today wise I thought Charlie Britland, Matt Thorpe and Trav Kitson played superbly but as a squad they were all outstanding not just today but all season.
To go undefeated all season is one hell of a feat and winning every game since the first game of the season against Dodworth which we drew 3-3 is an outstanding achievement.
